http://www.ctheory.net/articles.aspx?id=338.."Cool became remote, the opposite of mass. It morphed into the gadget, car, person, or party available to few but coveted by many."
http://www.fenichel.com/Cool.shtml.."Definitely you want to look cool to the "right" group of friends; and your sneakers and attitude are of equal importance in school. And maybe your smile or your shape, or your jokes or your brains or your brawn are what make YOU feel good. Or maybe you only wish to be popular but you're really quite shy, or embarassed or slow, too heavy or thin, or you want to make friends but don't know where to begin."

homework 29

in class we was watching a video about how people try to catch the teenage eyes and try to get them to buy their product.  so they did several interviews to kids and asked them a set of questions to why are certain things cool. what makes them cool and attracted. each of the kids had different opinions about things because of personal thoughts. these companies would try and manipulate you into buying their products by showing their ads all day and everywhere. a teenager would watch ion average 3,000 commercials a day mostly of the same products.
companies all over the world have specialists that go out and try to seek out the trend setters. they try to find what is the next best thing that is gonna catch the populations eye so they could buy their products. the specialist would go around and ask people to take pictures of something they are wearing or something they have on like a tattoo or some kind of piercing. they people that are asked to take the pictures feel cool because they think oh i am gonna become the next best thing. everybody is going to copy my style and i am going to get noticed.
the sprite company made a huge impact on the young population. they came out and tried to reach them and tried to become their friends. they would throw parties and give away their product for free. they wanted the teens to get involved and made them feel like they were cool and popular. another organization that reached out to the youth was MTV. they would bring people on their shows and made them feel powerful and cool when they had the viewers choice to pick the songs.

homework 27

we went out into the streets and interviewed some people about their point of views of being cool. one of the guys said that he thought that his boyfriend was very cool because of the way he dressed and how he was successful in what he does. he also said the coolest fashion style to him is civil war, vintage type styles because they were unique and original. the next guy that we interview said that he had his own fashion website. and his type of style is that he wants to dress not too modely type but not too dress down.

i interviewed my mom and she didnt really have much to say. what she thinks is cool is, someone who helps people..someone who thinks about others besides themselves..good person to their community. she thinks that she is cool because she is good natured and a caring mom and sensitive to other peoples feelings and loves life even when its difficult and makes her friends feel welcomed.

homework 25

victors comment: heyy i liked your story. i found it really funny. i think that this was good cus it is as if it could happen in real life in class. i think that this story takes a aspect of how us kids act and that we are very silly. and by being silly is one of the ways of being cool.

sams comments: i liked your story sam. this story shows what all teenagers go through as they get older. everybody has their own idea of cool and by reading this story i get the idea you think people feel like they are cool because of what they have on. and then the downside to it is that you shouldnt always wear what others are wearing and that people will make fun of you reguardless what you are wearing.

yurelis comment: i enjoyed your story. from your story i got out that people use each other for what they have and who they are. and thats whats wrong with us today. we feel that people just want to use us for a period of time and then when we dont have what they want they go and leave..we leach onto others to feel cool cus we have everythin they have for the time being.

yazmin p. comment: i like how you put your story into a outside person kinda. you descried this chick as a "cool" character and how she acts. you put a typical outline of a cool person in the beginning but you also twisted it up with how she was also a good person the her community and how she had a positive influence on things. and by reading your story thats your point of view of being cool.

yassy jones comment: heyyy yassy i liked your story. i think that it had a good message to it. that kids dont take school seriously and that we just come to school because we "have" to but we dont. and it shows that even thought the teacher was mean she cares about him and wants him to do good in his future and life and wants him to become something. i just hope that doesnt happen in real life.

homework 24

once apon a time there was an 11th grader name shaquiqua johnson. she thought she was the coolest person in her grade. it was about two weeks into school and she tried to become more popular. so she started to socialize more and became more outgoing. next thing she knows she going out with someone in one of her classes. everything was going good for her. the relationship was going great and she had made a lot of friends and became cool with people. but the whole becoming cool amd fitting in started to interfear with her education. her grades started slipping in some of her classes. before she knew it, she was failing some of her classes and she started to get overwhelmed. she started to get stressed out and getting mad at people and always being grumpy. her mood went down as she would slowly walk through the hallways with her head down and a lil frown on her face. she wasnt always jolly and playful. instead of coming to school with a dont really care that much additude and only going just to hang out with her friends, she decided to change her act. she would now go to all of her classes and paid more attenton. she would raise her hand and do all the class work and participated a lot. she would do the homework and started talkin to the guidence counsler to talk about college. her mom noticed that she has changed and became very proud. now shaquiqua knows that being cool isnt just having a lot of friends but also doing good in school and having a good life.

homework 23

in class on friday we started a new unit. its called cool. how to be cool...what is cool..what makes us cool..things that people think is cool. so far i think that there is no right pr wrong way of being cool. everybody has their own perspective and point of views of being cool. some people think that listening to rap and hip-hop and wearin baggy clothes and big tee's with due rags is cool. and others think that wear skinny jeans with a graphic tee and a fitted listenin to pop and r&b is cool. there are a bunch of different cliques that feel that the people in the group is cool because they are all similar.
another thing that makes people feel like they are cool is because they are popular or well known. being popular by having everybody know who you are and everybody knows your name. but that all doesnt matter because they could just know your name just cus buy not because your cool to them or important in their life. being popular isnt everything especially if you dont have the right connections and the people you know wont get you nowhere in life.
sometimes trying to be cool is a bad thing. the people that are "lames" or "uncool" people try to "fit in" with the in groups and try to become someone they are not. they would change their personality and change their clothes and the music they listen to and maybe even dump the old friends they would normally chill with just cus they are considered "misfits".
doing cool things gets you in trouble. people find drinking and smoking very cool. you cant have fun unless your drinking or smoking or at a party going crazy.
i would like to know who invented the "cool" trend..when did it start..what was the first intentions of being cool?
