http://www.ctheory.net/articles.aspx?id=338.."Cool became remote, the opposite of mass. It morphed into the gadget, car, person, or party available to few but coveted by many."
http://www.fenichel.com/Cool.shtml.."Definitely you want to look cool to the "right" group of friends; and your sneakers and attitude are of equal importance in school. And maybe your smile or your shape, or your jokes or your brains or your brawn are what make YOU feel good. Or maybe you only wish to be popular but you're really quite shy, or embarassed or slow, too heavy or thin, or you want to make friends but don't know where to begin."

homework 29

in class we was watching a video about how people try to catch the teenage eyes and try to get them to buy their product.  so they did several interviews to kids and asked them a set of questions to why are certain things cool. what makes them cool and attracted. each of the kids had different opinions about things because of personal thoughts. these companies would try and manipulate you into buying their products by showing their ads all day and everywhere. a teenager would watch ion average 3,000 commercials a day mostly of the same products.
companies all over the world have specialists that go out and try to seek out the trend setters. they try to find what is the next best thing that is gonna catch the populations eye so they could buy their products. the specialist would go around and ask people to take pictures of something they are wearing or something they have on like a tattoo or some kind of piercing. they people that are asked to take the pictures feel cool because they think oh i am gonna become the next best thing. everybody is going to copy my style and i am going to get noticed.
the sprite company made a huge impact on the young population. they came out and tried to reach them and tried to become their friends. they would throw parties and give away their product for free. they wanted the teens to get involved and made them feel like they were cool and popular. another organization that reached out to the youth was MTV. they would bring people on their shows and made them feel powerful and cool when they had the viewers choice to pick the songs.

we went out into the streets and interviewed some people about their point of views of being cool. one of the guys said that he thought that his boyfriend was very cool because of the way he dressed and how he was successful in what he does. he also said the coolest fashion style to him is civil war, vintage type styles because they were unique and original. the next guy that we interview said that he had his own fashion website. and his type of style is that he wants to dress not too modely type but not too dress down.

i interviewed my mom and she didnt really have much to say. what she thinks is cool is, someone who helps people..someone who thinks about others besides themselves..good person to their community. she thinks that she is cool because she is good natured and a caring mom and sensitive to other peoples feelings and loves life even when its difficult and makes her friends feel welcomed.
